Blog #6

While I was reading Lamott’s short essay, I began to think of ways that I could implement her thinking into my own drafting process. But as she went on, I began to understand that my writing style really doesn’t correlate with what Lamott described. When I write, I try to edit while I go, to try and make it sound as smooth as possible on the first go around. Sometimes this doesn’t work however, so I end up editing what I had written down the first time. But her idea is to just plop down every little thought you end up having, no matter what it is. My drafting process does not correlate with hers at all. This short essay did surprise me with its witty diction and how she described certain processes. Such as referring to writing her first drafts as child-like.

Revision plan:

My goals for this revision is to further develop my body paragraphs and to draw new and better connections to my thesis. And to look through my paragraphs to make sure I do not contradict myself

The first step in this process is to revisit my thesis to touch it up and to make sure that it is something that I can still work with.

The next step is to make sure that all my focuses in the body paragraphs of the essay are things that I can relate back to the thesis. As well I will need to develop the explanations of my claims to make things sound smoother to the readers.

The next step is to look through all my paragraphs to make sure I have not contradicted myself in any way. For this step, i’ll have someone read it to me out loud so I can catch what does not make sense.

My biggest problem is going to be catching myself contradicting myself. Recently I have been loosing touch with the side of me that focuses on the small details while I am working. I think it will benefit me greatly to have someone read my essay out loud to me so I can catch grammatical and technical errors better.

If this problem proves too difficult for me to get past, I will use the writing fellow or I will sit down and really talk out what is going wrong with friends or colleagues.
